Melvin is a special young horse with a temperament that’s hard to find. He is exceptonally well bred. His sire jumped up to 160, and his dam's sire - Quidam de Revel - is a world-renowned stallion who jumped at the top of the sport, including successfully representing France in the Olympics and topping the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) sire rankings for showjumpers in 2003 and 2004.
Melvin is a super genuine, kind and straightforward young horse. He has been with us since the middle of his 4yo year, just after he was broken in, and has since been produced slowly with a varied education. He's been to a handful of shows, jumping clears in Discovery classes, including finishing 3rd in the Discovery at Chepstow.
He has also been hunting, where he was very brave and sensible up at the front with the hounds, and leading other horses over ditches and hedges. He's also been cross-country training both in an arena and on grass, which he really enjoys and is very enjoyable to ride.
He is very genuine and kind young horse, jumping everything first time, is very brave and not spooky, and is also very forgiving for his rider. He has lovely flatwork, moves nicely off the leg but is very light in the hand, and has learnt his flying changes.
Melvin is good to load, travel, for the dentist, to have his feet trimmed, stand in the wash bays to be brushed and bathed and tacked up. He is easy to turn out and bring in and lives in or out, alone or with others. He is so easy to do at a show - he will stand all day at the ring or in the warm up. One person can easily take him out to a show - he will stand for his rider to get on/off and is good to do on or outside the lorry.
He hacks alone or in company - he is very slow and steady and our 16 year old apprentice has hacked him out.
Melvin is still growing into himself, but has plenty of scope and will be a pleasure for someone to produce further to compete in any discipline.
